I have to admit my nerves were a bit higher than normal on Friday, February 15. Standing on set of Friday Night Beauty is an awe inspiring feeling. So many incredible brands and amazing people have been on this set before me. I was there for the world launch of our Global Volumizing Iron for people outside the beauty industry. It would be the first time any tools from FHI Heat would be available to the consumer for home use. I had the honor of being scheduled with Lisa Robertson for my first time on QVC. She was gracious, understood my nerves and guided me through my presentation with ease and comfort.
I began using the iron several months before we launched, before FHI had completed the consumer package design. I was so excited to get my hands on the iron, I tore open the plain white package, and armed with a marked level of enthusiasm I began using the iron, practically all day every day whenever I could in my salon or on set somewhere.
I made a few observations, especially from regular repeat clients. I noticed an improvement in the feel of their hair and an improved manageability. I also noticed that I was using the iron in ways I had never done before. I used the Volumizing Iron to create curls. This had become my new favorite styling trick. Perhaps this wasn’t new to the world, but it was a revelation to me! I had always grabbed a traditional curling iron and went about my normal routine.
Using the iron for curly or wavy looks not only created better curls, they lasted longer and were smoother. The plates are designed to reduce frizz and increase smoothness. This leads to better curl or wave and a style that lasts through the night. It’s perfect if a client is going to a wedding or needs to be under the hot lights of a TV set.
Soon after we set up each station of my salon with an FHI Heat dryer and iron. Our Guests have noticed differences in the overall look of the hair and longevity of the style and started asking when and where they could buy the tools we use. I am so excited for the QVC community to be the first to be able to purchase this technology for themselves and I cannot wait to hear how you all are loving the iron and the new fabulous looks you are achieving.
There are some great how-to’s here on QVC.com but I wanted share a tip on using the iron.
Utilize the adjustable temperature settings on the iron.
Most people go right for the highest setting thinking hotter must be better. I definitely recommend starting at the lowest setting and gently increasing the setting as you feel is necessary for your hair type and condition. Generally speaking Fine or Normal hair should be in the range of 230 degrees F to 340 degrees F. If your hair is wavy, curly or permed 350-400 degrees F range, and if your hair is coarse or thick 410-450 degrees F. Again start in the lowest setting of your range and increase as needed.
Most importantly have fun with the iron. Be creative and create fun new looks. It’s hair – the best accessory around. I can’t wait to hear from you and all the great hair you create!!
Wishing you happy, healthy hair!
